Check out a stream of the new video for Elefant's "Misfit" courtesy of our friends at Filter. The band just re-shot the video, and it looks good, and not just because the boys are pretty.
Seeing as I have a thing for owl imagery, I had to check out Philadelphia's Box Five based on the banner below, which was part of this post on Life Of A Spuckle.
Below is the neat-o album cover of their debut EP, which you can download in its entirety here, if you haven't already clicked on the banner.
Pretty piano pop that's definitely worth a listen. Check out a review over at Whatever's Left.
I take a day off work, and look what happens while I'm out of the loop... bluestate gets a mention (more like a challenge) in The Washington Post's Nightlife Agenda:
And now for something completely different. You never know how music critics will do as DJs -- just because you can write about new music and are exposed to a lot of new tunes doesn't mean you know how to move a crowd. That's why it'll be interesting to check out tonight's Bluestate night on the Black Cat's backstage, which features four music-loving bloggers on the decks. (Get more info and links on the quartet's blog, www.bluestatedc.com, but expect to hear lots of danceable rock, a la Q and Not U, the Futureheads, Franz Ferdinand and Belle and Sebastian.) Everything starts at 9:30 and admission is free. (If you get bored, you can always head upstairs to Mousetrap, the monthly Britpop DJ night that Mark Zimin has run for more than five years.)
No pressure or anything.
Crowd, I'll do my part to get you moving, and you do your part and move.

I'm probably enjoying this more than I should be.
A highlight from the world of Russian pop: Via Gra - "Biologia"
The Cause have a new site. No more popups! Also, they have a show this Wednesday at the Grog and Tankard.
I spent some quality time with Ms. Rhinestone in New York City last week. We ate lunch at Le Cirque 2000 and saw a woman who looked just like Lucille from Arrested Development, wearing a wide-brimmed fur hat that looked like something only pimps and ladies who lunch would actually dare to wear. Le Cirque makes for excellent people watching. Rich people are fascinating.
While on vacation, I saw: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Bad Education, Closer and The Aviator. I think I've gotten over my dislike of Wes Anderson. Almodóvar movies make me want to live in Spain and use more red in my decorating schemes. I'm not over my dislike of Julia Roberts, but I didn't absolutely hate her in Closer. I am, however, starting to think that I'm over Leonardo DiCaprio, although altogether The Aviator was really good.
And yes, every day this week I will remind you that bluestate is this Saturday, January 8.
